The Expanse

Set more than 200 years into the future Earth has colonized Mars, the Asteroid Belt and some Moons surrounding Jupiter.

Tensions have been high between Mars and Earth for some time, with the Asteroid Belt(Belters) feeling that both view them as inferior and slaves(kind of true, but not completely).

It's a tale of betrayals and deception for the most part, losts of plot twists and interesting character reveals. It can get quite confusing at times, as there are 3 major storylines going on at once. One for Earth, one for Mars and one for the Belt, as well as several minor storylines being played out too. The great thing about it is that all of the storylines including the minor ones all form into one for the final 2 episodes of each series. I think it could be done a little better, but that doesn't mean they did it completely wrong.

The characters are interesting(although some are very, very annoying), and given it's a sci-fi show, you've kind of got to give it some room for cheesiness in the script. The thing I found most intriguing was how the gravity on different planets/asteroids effected the human body. I was quite pleased to see the realism in this, as it's something that is very rarely covered. For example, the people that were born/lived a very long time on the Asteroid Belt, had all kinds of bone deficiencies and muscular issue's, aswell as having severe pain while in normal gravity situations.

The CGI in places is awesome, as you'd expect of a space sci-fi show, but it's not the usual pew pew laser beams and phton torpedos. The hand held guns are more like mini-rail guns but not nearly as destructive, the spaceships have proper rail guns for close combat and tactical nuclear warheads for torpedos. Plus they have the planet destroying nukes, which(spoiler alert), Earth fires 151 of them at one point in the series, you'll have to watch it to find out why.

All 3 factions(Earthers, Martians and Belters) seem to paint each other as the bad guys, the show does you no favours in helping decide who's good and bad either, not until a full reveal later in the series.

Much of the show is either in the belt or in space, Earth has a few scenes, mainly in the place of government. I don't actually remember their being any scenes on Mars, aside from 1 training exercise by Martian Marines to introduce their characters.

For me, this show serves as a bridge between current real life technologies and the ridiculous technologies of shows like Star Trek. There is nothing like warp drives or pew pew laser rifles, it's predominantly just bigger and better versions of things we already have. I'm good with that, as I always wondered what came before the warp core or photon torpedos, you know?
Definitely worth a watch in my eyes and Season 3 comes out at the end of this year or the start of next year. Sorry if this seems to be all jumbled and rambling, I was just typing stuff about the show as it came to my head lol.

{Ed001's Note - I will have a look at this mate, thanks for the recommendation.}

No problem Ed. It's also worth mentioning that this is a Syfy channel TV Series, but it really isn't the usual tacky garbage that they put on. Plus I must correct my previous post, Season 3 is concluding this weekend on Syfy, but won't be coming to Netflix until October(ish).

{Ed001's Note - I just looked at the app I use to track what I watch, I have that bookmarked as one to check out already, so I just forgot about it.

I have just started on Condor, that is looking interesting so far after the first ep.}

I really like it too, excited for Season 3 when it comes onto Netflix.

{Ed001's Note - I am still on season 1. I watched the first episode of Altered Carbon the other night, which was intriguing at least. It made me want to see more.

Also Colony is quite good.}

I've been looking at those two for a little bit, not really knowing if I want to watch them yet.

{Ed001's Note - I am not one for bingewatching a show, would rather watch lots of different things, so I try loads of things. Those two are among the better ones, along with Preacher. I like Preacher. Stranger Things I am still undecided on.}

At the moment I'm watching Zoo, which was really interesting until Season 2 started. I'm not sure I like the direction it's going, and may stop watching after another 2 episodes or so.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know that one. Tell you what I would say to not bother with, Cloak and Dagger. It is a Marvel thing, but it is not particularly good, just odd.}

Stranger Things is bloody excellent Ed. Really, it's the best thing I've watched in a while.

{Ed001's Note - I have only watched a few episodes but it is intriguing. Certainly worth a watch so far.}
