Stranger Things series 3 is officially out. Who's hyped?!

{Ed001's Note - I just watched the first episode, I am hyped! I had intended to go to sleep an hour ago but noticed it was out so watched one first....}

Top 10 Comedies

This was so hard to do, so many I realised after putting the list together that I forgot, such as Phoenix Nights with Peter Kay and Black Books with Dylan Moran, both of which really should be in there, but I decided not to alter it, even though they would definitely have been in there if I had remembered them when choosing 10. The only reason I am leaving them out still is simply because I could not decide where to put them, though both would be somewhere in the top 5. And now I have just remembered Royle Family as well! My top 10 is a complete shambles I apologise as I have completely forgotten about nearly half of the 10 that should be in there.

10. Married...With Children

I was still at school when this was on TV, late night on ITV if I remember correctly, at a time when I was supposed to be sleeping as I had school the next day. Whether it was actually that good or if it just seemed funnier because I was not supposed to be watching it (or Sledgehammer, which I also remember loving at the time), it has stuck with me and I still immediately think of the show when I see one of the stars of it in something else.

9. Men Behaving Badly

Looking back, I have no idea why this was even worth a watch but it seemed to work. It looks really dated now but then you look at the Clarkson/Hammond/May Top Gears/Grand Tours and you realise it is still going strong, just in a slightly different format. The thing about it was, we probably all identified with it to a degree, either in terms of knowing people like that or being like it ourselves.

8. The IT Crowd

This was on TV here the other day and it still made me laugh, Moss and Roy are great characters. It was just spoilt by Noel Fielding's infrequent appearances, which are about as funny as having teeth extracted without anaesthetic. The rest of the show was funny though silly.

7. Barry

Dark and violent as it is at times, it can shift to funny in a split second. Even in the midst of a scene of carnage it can make you laugh, especially through Noho Hank, who is ridiculous but funny. It should not work but it does.

6. Peep Show

The only thing these two have done together which is funny, Mitchell and Webb I mean. Somehow this show works. It is odd how the losers always make for the funnier characters. And these two are massive losers in the show.

5. Only Fools And Horses

It seemed to go on forever but still manage to stay, mostly, funny. There were odd episodes that failed to live up to the level of the rest but overall it is deservedly seen as one of the funniest shows of all time. Who can forget Del Boy and Rodney emerging out of the fog dressed as Batman and Robin to come to the rescue? And how many times have you heard someone quote lines from the show?

4. Red Dwarf

Cheap, cheerful, silly but somehow funny. It should never have worked but somehow it did most of the time. Oh and it introduced the word smeg to the general population, something my uncle Paul said all the time, long before Red Dwarf was thought of.

3. Two Pints of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps

Coarse, crass but seemed funny at the time. I do wonder if it would still work now, but it was funny. A lot of these shows have probably dated horribly thinking about it.

2. The Inbetweeners

Obviously not the US remake, which was the least funny abomination in history, but the original British version, which somehow was hilarious. That rare thing in a comedy show of being genuinely laugh out loud funny at times, as well as making you cringe at the stupidity of the characters. There are not enough shows made that are proper comedy shows that do make you laugh.

1. Fawlty Towers

It is not exactly PC and you could never make something like it now, but it is quite simply brilliant. Unlike many other shows they stopped before they ran out of ideas and just ended up repeating the same gags over and over. The best thing about it is that it was based on a real hotel and owner, that John Cleese met with the Monty Python crew when they stayed in the hotel while filming. He was such a horrible employer that the cook planted a bomb when he left while they were staying there! And who can forget some of the immortal lines from the show? I am sure we have all said 'don't mention the war' at least once in our lives.

Do you remember Game on Ed ? had Samatha Janus in it when she was super hot !! Ben Chaplin played Matt in the first season of episodes and he couldn't leave the flat !! great show that.

{Ed001's Note - oh gosh yes. Another one I forgot. They changed Matt but the new guy was good as well in the end. Loved that show. Damn I am crap at these top 10s!!!}

Cheers for these lists ed! Shows how much the genre is struggling though with the majority of these being from 90's 00's.

Only fools is my personal favorite, mainly because i grew watching the repeats every Sunday. But I have never known a show that can make you change emotions so quickly, from genuine heartfelt moments, (where they were stuck in the lift) to laughing seconds later.

Two pints definitely won't age well. And would probably come across as incredibly sexist now!

And fawlty towers is just iconic, but i hope no one tries to replicate any of the above of reboot them. These should be left well alone!

So good Game on was. Both matt's were good, I think there was another called Coupling, bit like the English version of friends. Don't make em like they use to that's fer sure. Think Game on was on before Xfiles on a Thursday night lol. Showing my age now.

{Ed001's Note - I remember Coupling, much better than Friends, which was awful. Never understood the raving about that.}

Another one that you may remember is Brass Eye, the episode on the fake drug "Cake" and "Paedogeddon" had me rolling around laughing.

I know there was a thread about Batman on the movie pages but does anyone watch Gotham?

I feel I shouldn't enjoy it but Batman's villians are probably my favourite out of DC and Marvel. And showing there origins makes a pleasant change then them just being rehashed for every re-boot.
The Bruce Wayne in this has that harry potter vibe about him, one in which he is the main character and the `saviour` but always ends up being the one saved. To the point where you end up liking the supporting cast more.
The show is very well made and has plenty of links to it's source material.
Special mention for the actor who plays the Joker as he has managed to put his own twist on probably the most iconic villian in comic books. To a point where I would love to see them develop it on the big screen, but DC have messed that up with so many variations of the joker.

It's in to the last series, so if anyone needs a binge and is a fan of batman and it's surrounding characters. I'd recommend giving it a watch.

My Top 10 Current TV Shows

By current I am going for ones who had a season that ran at least as recently as 2018.

10. Doom Patrol

For those who know their comic books, they will already know the characters as they are from a DC Comics series. It is one of the maddest, but most fun, shows on TV. From the bad guy, Mr Nobody's narration to the stories they cover, the show is incredible and just surprises you each week. Pure, brilliant insanity with some of the best characters you could imagine. I really did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did, though I do have to warn you that some of the scenes once seen can never be unseen! Oh and it is not aimed at children, with lots of strong language.

9. Deadly Class

Another comic book adaptation, this one is about a class of teenagers being trained as assassins in a special school back in the 1980s. It is full of violence and there are some graphic scenes but it is more than just an action show. Anything with a main bad guy named 'F**kface' is worth a watch.

8. Daredevil

Yes another comic book, this time a Marvel one. A much better adaptation than the film that was made using the character. It is just a shame they keep ending it as they stopped after 2 seasons, then brought it back for one more but have finished it again. The series, though clearly over the top in its judgement of the capabilities of a blind man using clicks to 'see' like a dolphin, is actually based on something some blind people can genuinely do. There have been a number of proven instances of blind people who use a kind of sonar to navigate. Sadly I doubt anyone of them have used it to fight crime! Anyway, back to the show and it is dark and violent, without the humour of the other two so far, but excellent anyway.

7. Titans

I promise you there are some shows in this list that are not comic book adaptations, though it is beginning to feel like I am obsessed with comic book shows, even though I have not read any of the comics they are adapted from. This one revolves around Nightwing, Batman's Robin when he is grown up, and has some excellent fight scenes. Just a shame that, like Doom Patrol and Deadly Class, it has only had one season so far. I am eagerly looking forward to a second one! It also did include Doom Patrol in a couple of episodes.

6. The Punisher

Ties in very closely with Daredevil and surpasses it in my opinion. If the movies they made with this character had been anywhere near as good they would have spawned a long-running franchise for sure. It is brutal but excellent and you cannot help but empathise with Frank Castle. The shame is that, like Daredevil, it has been cancelled too. The lead excelled, though the actor's name escapes me, and brought it all to life.

5. Barry

See I told you there were some non-comic book TV shows in the list! Barry is funny but dark and violent. Noho Hank is one of the best characters of all time and it goes swiftly from making you laugh to shocking you to pulling on your heartstrings and then back to making you laugh all within moments. I was not expecting to like it but I really do love this show. And it is so good to have 'The Fonz' back on TV as one of the main supporting cast members. Henry Winkler is really good in it.

4. Cobra Kai

This show is genius! Whoever pulled this all together has managed something brilliant. It is one thing to pick up the story from Karate Kid all these years later, but a completely different one to bring back all, and I do mean all, the same actors to pick up where they left off. It is not just a nostalgia-fest though, it is a genuinely good show in its own right with Jonny being the focus, rather than the bad guy. Your whole view of the original films changes when you start to see things from Jonny's viewpoint.

3. Stranger Things

This is just a fantastic TV show, which matches nostalgia for the 80s with a great story and some excellent acting. It is one of the first times I have seen a TV show starring kids that can actually act and they have developed their characters really well, especially the bromance between Steve and Dustin. With season 3 due out soon, if you have not yet seen this show I highly recommend sitting down and binge watching the first two seasons.

2. The Expanse

Just an outstanding TV show, it has turned science fiction into art while not neglecting to tell a story really well. The characters are excellent, with some great interactions between them, to make it feel more real than you would expect of such a show. The tensions between the three distinct groups of humans makes sense and the effects are amazing. Syfy must be mad to let this show go and Amazon have picked up a winner.

1. Warrior

I love martial arts films and this show, based on a story by Bruce Lee, is as good as the best of them. It is reminiscent of a cross between Peaky Blinders and Enter The Dragon, with a little bit of Western sprinkled in. Some great characters make it even better. Just have to say 10 shows so far is not enough!

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jun 2019 12:00:44
Nice list, I don't watch that many TV shows, I find the ones I pick tend to get cancelled lol.

That's my only worry for the expense. The first 3 seasons were on the SyFy channel and didn't get watched by too many people, so I'm not sure it will pull the numbers in through Amazon.

Have you watched the HBO miniseries Chernobyl? Only 5 episodes but very good.

{Ed001's Note - I haven't seen Chernobyl yet, it doesn't really appeal to me to be honest.}

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jun 2019 12:52:53
I think the punished actor you were looking for was Jon bernthal, he was in the walking dead as well. And if you haven't seen it another show you may like is umbrella academy. It's good fun and is of course like most things now a days based off a comic boon seires. Also for anyone with sky all the episodes of warrior will be available to watch from the 25th of June I believe. I will certainly be giving it a go

{Ed001's Note - that's him! And I have seen Umbrella Academy, very good but just not quite as good as the others I felt.}

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jun 2019 13:03:53
I agree, I prefer the marvel a and dc shows a but more also, I think umbrella academy is more quirky and fun then anything else. It's a shame that the Disney streaming service and the streaming "wars" has taken the likes of daredevil and punisher away although I feel the final seasons did at least tie up their stories well and didn't leave us on a cliffhanger. Lucifer is also a delightful show, no as good in objective quality I suppose but just very charming

{Ed001's Note - I like Lucifer too, another that just missed the cut, mainly because the latest season did not quite live up to the previous ones.

Not all the DC ones are good - Supergirl, Flash and Arrow are rubbish. Just really poorly done like an old comic book kids show. I do like Legends of Tomorrow now it has moved on its own path and become a genuinely good comedy. First few seasons were poor, but now it is just good fun and one of the better comedy shows around.}

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jun 2019 13:53:36
Yeah I was thinking more on the line of streaming services then network television, especially when it comes to the cw, the 22 episode long format is just too long to sustain quality over multiple seasons which is why all the dc shows have declined in quantity in my view. The first two season of flash and arrow were really good I found but then came the inevitable decline. As you say legends is the only one that has actually seen an increase in quality over its time on the air. I certainly won't be sinking any time into the new batwoman show which looks more of the same.

And of course if you're bored and there's nothing to watch just put on highlights from the European cup this, that's what i do. In fact the redmen tv on YouTube made a documentary style recap of the whole run in the European cup for Liverpool so i watched that the other day and it was really well done. Showing their vlogs from matchdays and reactions to last year final all the way to the parade

{Ed001's Note - there is always stuff to watch, if I need something to watch I just watch footage of players for profiles.}

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jun 2019 15:48:22

It's because SyFy is a shocking channel that gets hardly any views. Now that it's been picked up by Amazon it should get the views it deserves.

I personally really enjoy it. The ending to Season 3 was really good and I'm looking forward to Season 4.

1990 book written by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Its a take on The Omen, son of the devil starting the apocalypse, plenty of satire. Wont say too much on the plot for spoilers. Good cast. Michael Sheen and David Tennant amongst others. 6 parts on Amazon prime. On bbc2 nearer Christmas.

{Ed001's Note - oh no can't stand either author's work. I tried that American Gods and it started off promising but disappeared up its own backside after a while. Beautiful cinematography but the show was just awful. And I have never liked anything by Pratchett. I will give it a miss I think.}

So our watch is over! Be interested to hear peoples thoughts on the last episode and the series as a whole. Be warned SPOILERS are below!

I again, loved the episode, this was why we watch game of thrones.

The scenes with Tyrion at the beginning were brilliant, not just visually but for the character. There was so little dialogue but because dinklage has built his character so well you understood what was going through his mind.

The battle cry from Dany was the final point on her dissent into madness, although at first I did wonder how they understood her, it was still wonderfully done. And the shot with the dragon behind was again a lovely shot.

Then Tyrion's dialogue with Jon summed up that the power isn't with the king or queen, but those individuals from behind the glamour. I did think his character was long gone after throwing away the pin.

Then the moment, although I kind of wished that was our ep 5 ended as a week of who's dead, would of been fun.

The scene with the new council was cleverly done, bran was a left field option but just glad he was of use in the end. Although, he must be a bit power hungry, he could see all the devastation happen just to let him become king!

Sam's little nod to democracy was one of my favourite lines.

Also anyone that cares about the bottles being seen, 1 how have you noticed them? And 2 sorry that the dragons and the zombies weren't enough of a clue this wasn't real. They had huge costumes on in baking heat and I cared about the story more then a few minor mishaps.

The ending was surprisingly tied up in a little bow, not what I was expecting from GOT. But the more I think about it it works.

As for the series, it was rushed, but I think they intended it to be. If we had a few filler episodes people would complain and you can't please everyone. Overall I've loved game of thrones and look forward to the spin offs.

Edit: apologies written this on my phone so apologies if it doesn't read correctly.

Also, ed001 regarding the sponsors on the right side of the page, is it worth putting the other pages up in the short term to try and drive additional traffic to them? i.e the movie/f1 pages? But like halfway down the boxes so it doesn't discourage future sponsors?

{Ed001's Note - it is not as simple as that to just put up things on the sponsors boxes but yes that is actually not a bad idea, I will speak to Ed033 about it now.}

Agree0 Disagree0

23 May 2019 22:00:04
I think the key word is rushed, but I think if people were told after season 3 characters would get these ending then th eh would of probably of been pleased, including the mad queen twist which is something I thought they would do even if it was executed terribly. I think it's was the way we got there and the finer details as oppose to the actual ending that has disappointed people, and I too think it was all little rushed and in general the show went from a complex character and plot to extremely basic and simple and somewhat check listy

None the less the episodes cannot be faulted for production quality, cinematography, music, acting, production value. I do agree complaining about the cups and things seems a strange one to pick up on, especially as they are very hard to spot and not exacly turning up every where. However I don't really agree with the idea that that because there are fictional elements this means it doesn't matter if anything it matters more as a show creates its own reality and if its set in a fantasy world or the past and modern day things kept Turning up it would be distracting I think. However this isn't the case it was one Starbucks cup I couldn't even make out and those waters bottles were half visible behind a chair, don't know how anyone saw those

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2019 10:07:37
It ended mostly as I expected. Arya went off to do her own thing, she's not the marrying and settling down type. Sansa got what she wanted, Winterfell and Northern independence although I wonder who she'll marry to create the next generation of Starks. Jon went back to where he was happiest. As you say Bran was left field but there wasn't anyone else left. Dany had been built up since early on. But it was rushed. I feel the previous series should've been 10 episodes instead of 7 to properly build it up more then come into the last series with them all feature length to give more time to show the effects of things.

O well its done. Onto the spin offs.

Just stumbled on this and the Movie chat. Oh man. I thought I couldn't love this site anymore!!

In my opinion, I was dissapointed in Game of Thrones before episode 5. I had built it up so much in my head and episode 4 was a massive drop off in quality. However, Episode was Game Of Thrones back to its very best!

**SPOILERS**

For 8 seasons it has been built up. I didn't think it would go down that route but now it makes sense, and I love it! Dany is the Mad Queen!! I thought the cinematography was insane and the actions was non stop. My jaw was on the floor the whole time.

Big welll done to the cast. So well acted. So excited to see what is in store for the finale.

Glad someone else enjoyed it, I’m sick of seeing people moaning about it. 500,000 signing a petition because it’s not what they wanted? They should go and watch peppa pig!

Completely accept people may not like the final series as it is going at a rapid rate but to ask for it to be re-written, is just a joke imo.

Sorry cm94 just ranted on the back of your post!

The battle between the mountain and the hound plus Qyburns death was my personal highlight of the episode.

I agree thus petition nonsense is incredibly stupid, the same thing happened with the last Jedi if I remember correctly, which I very much liked parts and was indifferent about other similar it this season of thrones but these seriously I thought petitions were supposed to be for worthwhile causes and to shine a light on actual issues.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 May 2019 16:12:45
Exactly Wyred! For the most part this season has been great and episode 5 was the pinnacle. Brilliant.

I also agree with you on the rapid rate of this season. They definitely could have made the Battle with the White Walkers 2 episodes at least. The Battle of Winterfell was epic but at the same time the threat of the Night King and co. was wiped out in 1 hour and a half! There was so much material there that D+D missed out on. But episode 5 was redemption. Stunning.

The petition is stupid as you say DS. The show is not even finished and people are judging it massively.

I believe the season finale is going to be epic. Can not wait.

SPOILER WARNING, although if you haven't watched it yet, get a wiggle on!

I think I am in the minority who enjoyed the recent episode,
Varys got caught being Varys and earned a memorable death (there is definitely more to this too, Varys was being quick because he had to be. I think Tryrion got a warning from Bran in epsiode 2 about how crazy dany was and passed this info on)
Dany went full mad queen which has been teased for a few series
Jon no longer knows what to do

Genuinely wasn't sure if Arya would survive at one point
Cersei's death was good although I get why people are annoyed with it.
Qyburn's death was brilliant.
Euron got what was coming to him
And we got the fight between the hound and the mountain.
GOT is like no other series, some characters arcs get completed while others die before their time.

Would I have done a few things differently, definitely. I would of had Cersei getting killed rather then being led down a dark alley. And probably had a bit more politics thrown into the series with a few additional episodes.
But this was never going to please everyone, when these things have such huge fandoms the fans tend to create better story lines then the writers.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 May 2019 21:40:53
Yeah as much as I feel the last couple of seasons have felt very fast and rushed, and this season the most victim to that and certain big moments haven't felt right to me or gone how I think they should go from an organic and logical story point I would go as far to say I hate this season but feel indifferent at times

As for the final season 'ruining it' I don't agree with that as it doesn't take away the great viewing experience I've had along the way. As Tony stark said "part of the journey is the end" and I would add that no matter when the end comes we will always have that journey

It's like saying just because you don't win the title at the end of the season there was no point

Agree0 Disagree0

16 May 2019 21:08:17
They have definitely rushed the final series, and could of easily made it to ten episodes, but I think the last episode will tie up a lot.

GOT has been brilliant and is definitely something that will be high up in tv history.

I’d also say it’s felt quick compared to the first seasons as they could be slow and build up characters etc, now we know the end is near (at least for this story) it will feel like it’s motoring to the end.

I just hope we see a few missing characters in the final episode like yara and I hope bran is the way he is for a reason and doesn’t just plateau. If he does he will surely go down as one of the more disappointing characters.

I think it fair to start talking about the Game of Thrones episode, if you haven't seen it yet I suggest you stop reading.

THEY ALL DIE!!! (This didn't happen but count this as your warning if you are still reading and wanting to avoid spoilers!!).

So I re-watched this episode last night, with the brightness turned up! And it cast the episode in a whole new light. Overall the episode was enjoyable and I think it looked brilliant however there were some disappointments to say the least.
Starting with the dothraki, I personally have no issue with them being dealt with so easily. It showed the task the living had on their hands and also showed that this wasn’t going to come down to who fights the best. This was purely a numbers game now and the dead were ahead on that front.
The fire moat around winterfell annoyed me, I get that Dany couldn’t see the signal but Jon was just sat there. He had a massive fire starter and just thought nothing of it. However the dead sacrificing themselves to build a bridge was great.
Bran, what was he doing??? Literally in the biggest battle and just disappears into some crows. I couldn’t care about his character but he must be important to the overall story.
The deaths or lack of! Yes the ones that died were great characters but the night king was built as a huge threat yet conveniently the biggest characters all survived? It was like they didn’t dare pull the trigger. I am guessing it is more to do with the final three episodes, but why make a big deal of Jon’s parentage? They should have shown that tension on the battle field, i.e. Dany toying with the idea of leaving him for dead because he is now a threat. Sam should be dead, he is a terrible fighter yet made it out alive. It was all set for Brienne to die but refused to pull the trigger.
But my biggest disappointment wasn’t the tactics, this wasn’t a standard battle where you could outwit your opponent like a game of chess. It was the dragons, Jon and dany spent the episode re-enacting Aladdin! The wights biggest weakness is fire, so let’s just sit back with two dragons and fly around in circles waiting for the night king!
I hope the next three episodes show that the decisions made sense, and they don’t cop out with major character deaths. Would be interested to hear peoples thoughts on the episode and their theories for the final three episodes. One of mine is that Bran is the lord of light and he goes back to engineer certain circumstances for the story. I.e. ensuring that melisandre goes to winterfell.

{Ed001's Note - did you not think the bit in the crypt was the stupidest bit of writing ever? I mean everyone knows they were fighting the dead, so why would you hide with the dead?}

I think from the characters point of view they may have been unsure of the nights kings abilities and not sure where else they could have gone. but again one of them (big characters) in the crypt should of died, they had no fighters and no where to go!

Although that was a missed opportunity, could of had sansa having to kill a stark wight to save tyrion.

{Ed001's Note - surely characters like Jon Snow, having seen what happens, would know better? It just seemed like lazy writing to me, like the whole series.}

Given that the wight they caught last season couldn't even get out a wooden box perhaps they thought the stone tombs would be a bit too strong for them, but seriously it was very dumb

The episode was certainly epic with some great cinematography and the way the piano score came in and the sound was dulled while they built up to the night king walking to bran and the eventual demise of theon was brillant

However firstly battle tactics, its not a standard battle but really? Charge you cavalry of 20,000 into the dark against what you know is an army of 100,000s of thousands. Put your catapults in front of the trench, only have one trench, wait to light of it up. Seemed illogical to me.

Character deaths: a lot of characters I liked but yeah none of the biggies, I think arya should of died in the process of killing the night king, if it had to be her that took him out. I would of had him pull his sword out about to kill bran then arya jumps at him showing the dagger so he turns and skewers her with the sword, but behind her back she was hiding the spear she had made so as he turned to and stabbed her she had snuck the spear under his armour with the other hand.

I always thought that even though it was heavily foreshadowed arya would kill him it always felt like more of jons fight and his character arc, at the very least it woold of been good to see him take the night king one on one.

I suppose cersei is now the final 'villain' but I agree there is still a twist to come to see who will get the iron throne, ifeel like dany could take a dark turn before the end

At the start of the season my fan fiction idea was that the night king would be revealed as o me of our current characters like Jon somehow, then he would roll over everyone and the last shot would be kings landing in darkness and ice dragons over head then the night king on the iron throne,, hazed mist covering the floor the camera walks up to the throne pans up, low angle shot and the night king looks into the camera

However from a more realistic take I woudl of had jon take out the night king as he has always been about ghe fight against the dead , arya take out cersei as she got ned killed and is top of her kill list and Jamie take out dany as she loses the plot and comes full circle from king slayer of her father to queen slayer, stomping the second targeryan era

Battleofwinterfell!!!

What an epic episode. Made up for the previous 2 seasons. Seriously that was something special.

Seeing all the characters at winterfell battle it out together was truly something i couldn’t handle.

Would be interesting to see how they top this with over a half of season still left to go.

It's all personal preference and feeling but there are many episodes I have preferred or even narrow that down to battles. Battle of the bastards and watchers on the wall are a couple I can think of. However is it still awesome to see those characters fighting together at winterfell i still finished the episode with a sense of dissatisfaction and overall underwhelmed

They built that battle up too much! Aesthetically it was brilliant, well the bits i could actually see because some were too dark! But I just found it disappointing, I thought there would be a bigger price. Won't say too much for spoilers but if you haven't seen it yet A) watch it and B) get off the internet!

{Ed001's Note - I really must be missing something, there were a couple of good scenes but the rest was just a jumble of terrible writing. So many glaringly bad plot holes, some so blatantly obvious from the start that it was pointless watching, even the bits you could see. It started off promisingly but then fell apart very quickly and descended into the frankly laughable by the end. I realise it is difficult to say any more without spoilers so I will resist the temptation to point out the holes for now.}

I agree, probably why it felt a bit off/unsatisfactoryin the end. Although I'm sure if you're a big fan of certain characters you will love the episode regardless and what it suggests about the rest of the season

I watched the first few episodes of the first season, Geoffry or whatever his name is annoyed me so much that I stopped watching.
When Season 8 finishes, I might watch it all.

The Sopranos

I know I've gone on about this before, but I just got done watching the whole series again and ffs it's so damn good.

The character arcs, the storylines, the acting, the fact that some storylines never get finished leaving it to your imagination(Pine Barrens episode springs to mind), all amazing. But for me the best thing about the show, is that it's dressed up as a Mafioso type show, but it's so much more than that.

RIP James Gandolfini and Frank Vincent.

{Ed025's Note - great show that hsf..

It is Ed, it's a shame I could never convince Ed001 that it's a good show =[
The Wire too. Makes me sad for modern TV shows, they just don't even come close.

{Ed025's Note - gandolfini was excellent hsf but i think my favourite character was pauly, it was the most believable of all the mafioso series for me mate..

Pressed send too early lol. I think my favourite character was Corrado "Junior" Soprano. He had the best lines in the show in all honesty, and I think his acting especially in the later episodes, where he's been diagnosed with Dementia/Alzheimer's is just out of this world.
I think I'd have to throw Johnny Sacremoni in there as an honourable mention, he did a really good job(they all did really. ).

{Ed025's Note - it was a great series mate..

Yes, Paulie Gaultieri was awesome, funny and terrifying at the same time lol.

The scene with the football coach, where he's trying to give him the 50 inch TV.
"Let me tell you something, Guido..."
"My name is Clarence"

Hilarious!

Id put the wire at no 1 and the sopranos at 2. The ending cost it points. But great tv show, some fantastic characters, great scenes, great lines, amazing cast. Paulie was great but even characters like Silvio an ralphie all were scene stealers.

I thought the same for a long time too Mort, that the ending could have been better. But that last scene in the diner, you see everything from Tony's perspective.

Door opens and bell rings.
You see Tony look up.
You then see who comes through the door.
This happens several times, then after the guy in the members only jacket has gone into the toilets, you hear the bell ring, Tony looks up - cut to black(Tony shot dead).
There is also a line from Bobby in an episode when they are sitting on the little fishing boat, where he says "you probably don't even know it happens, right?" Or something similar, there is also the scene when Silvio is at a dinner with someone from New York who gets whacked - the sound cuts out and Silvio has no idea what's happening until the 2nd gunshot is fired and blood is splattered on his face.

Oh Mort, you may also be pleased to know that they're doing a prequel to The Sopranos, it's called The Many Saints of Newark and it's about New Jersey in the late 60s. James Gandolfini's son is going to be in it, as a young Tony, which is pretty cool!

Hi seeking advice.

Bit of a technophobe here. I have an older hdtv (Not smart tv) and am fed up with extortionate prices I paid sky and now Virgin.
I keep seeing stuff around android boxes, firesticks and streaming services and accessing all PL football.
If I get an Android box, is that all I need to plug in and access tv and sports channels or do I need to download apps or do something else?
Is there an idiots guide to this sort of thing? Oh and can you record streamed tv? Is this possible via an Android box or will I have to purchase something to record tv?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

{Ed007's Note - If it's just football you want to watch there's websites for that and you can access them from any device with internet connection.
For ease of use I'd recommend you get a Firestick over an android box and yes you need to install apps but it's very easy to do and there's plenty of sites (and guys on the Celtic site) that'll help you out with that and get you sorted. You can also go down the road of paid IPTV (Internet Protocol television) which is a paid subscription (usually about £10 a month) to access an app that will have ALL your SKY & Virgin channels incl. movies & sports, PPVs etc etc
Sadly you can't record anything using a Firestick or an android box but you can buy a Freeview box that'll let you record for about £50-70 (you get cheaper and dearer but that's about the price we paid for my mum's and it works great).
Any further questions give me a shout Bobby 👍

That's great Ed, appreciate. So, in short, to get all tv channels I need a firestick and then subscribe to an iptv service?
Thanks

{Ed007's Note - yeah that would probably be the best bet.}

Is the iptv legal or are there risks. Just seems like a crazy deal

{Ed007's Note - It's not exactly legal but I've never heard of anyone getting into trouble apart from guys that run football streaming sites.}

Yeah they don't actually care about the people who watch the streams, it's the seeders they go after. Much like with the old Torrent programs.

A guy I used to be friends with got arrested for being a seeder while using uTorrent. He didn't actively look to seed, it's just he used to download while asleep and leave it running, so he'd be downloading for about 3 hours and seeding for much longer. Plus he was stupid and didn't cap his upload speed.

The way to look at it is like drug dealers, the authorities really don't give a damn about the users, only the suppliers.

Travelers:

I really enjoyed this so far and I've still got 1 more season to go.
In a nutshell, it's basically people from the very far future transferring their conciousness into people who were about to die in the 21st century, in order to prevent a series of disasters in their own timeline.
They operate in secret, but have to continue living the lives of the people they took hold of. It can get quite messy in places, but it works.

The acting is decent, the story is well written and it's not been over cooked with CGI.
I very much recommend this show.

Anyone seen the SyFy show Helix?

It's a show about a Laboratory in the Arctic,which conducts research into pretty much anything that's deadly.
They have a "minor" issue where 3 scientists get infected with some kind of disease and the CDC(Centre for Disease Control) are called in.

I haven't watched all of it yet, I'm only on the 5th episode of the first season, but one thing I will say, is so far this could quite easily have been a 28 Days Later prequel show. There are a lot of similarities with the infected and how they act.

That being said, it's not bad. The acting and script could be better, the concept of "zombies/infected" is running a little thin, but it's nice to see it happen from the very beginning for once, rather than half way through.

Well this show became a complete cluster of randomness and chaos. Season 1 was good considering some of the acting was really bad(yeah I'm looking at you Hiroyuki Sanada aka the Japanese Keanu Reeves), it had it's good parts and some really cool twists, but Season 2 was bad imo.

They tried to do two stories at once, one being present day and one being 30 years into the future, and it just became a giant mess. Some of the plot twists in season 2 were completely wasted, because it was so badly executed.

They also did this really awkward and strange episode, where Hiroyuki Sanada went insane... It carried so many racial stereotypes on Japanese people, that it was totally cringe.

Finished watching Cobra Kai - just 10 episodes so far on YouTube Red - and really enjoyed it. Like I said earlier, it might be purely the nostalgia thing, so probably not for everyone, but I liked the way they paid homage to the original film without just repeating everything from it.

They included bits and gave you moments which were direct bits from the original, such as wax on, wax off, but they also twisted bits, so you thought one thing was about to happen and instead it was used as a chance for humour. Unfortunately that humour only makes sense if you know the original film.

I really enjoyed this series though. Good to see they managed to get the original actors in as well, which really helped. Plus Johnny was excellent, and the way they gave his perspective on the original film really made you revisit how you remembered it. Oh and the ending. well I won't give it away but it made me want to see what happens next!
